Garden Isle Quilters Exhibit and Quilt Show

August 20-26, 2021

Kukui Grove Center, Lihue HI

Looking for some new quilting accents for your home or a unique quilted gift for someone special? Stop by the Kuikui Grove Center on Kauai to attend the 2nd Annual Quilt Exhibit and Sale put on by 5 Kauai Quilters and Artists of "Garden Isle Quilters." The event runs from August 20- August 26 from 10:00 AM- 5:00 PM, the admission is free. The Quilt Exhibit and Sale includes unique and beautiful quilts that reflect the artists' life on the breathtaking Garden Isle; most items will be for sale. Artists include Julie Fregeau, Jeni Hardy, Lea Ingram, Lesley Morris, and Toni Wass. 

 

Maui Kuia Chocolate Tasting

Maui Kuia Chocolate Factory 

What better way to taste chocolate than to pair it with Jazz. On August 22 from 12:00 PM- 3:00 PM various artists with Jazz Maui will perform at this semi-outdoor event while spectators enjoy breathtaking views and award-winning chocolate samples that include island flavors unique to Maui. This event is BYOB, and some suggested pairings for chocolate lovers include room-temperature wines, coffee, and stout beer. This event does require proof of vaccination with socially distanced policies in effect. Maui Kuia Chocolate will support Jazz Maui's music education programs by donating 100% of ticket sales and 40% of net sales for chocolate purchases made at mauichocolate.com/collections/arts-education-for-children-group at this event and throughout the year. Jazz Maui, a program of Arts Education for Children Group (aecg.org), provides opportunities for participation in high-quality jazz music education and performances for students of all ages.

 

 

Kokua Kailua Monthly Stroll 

September 19-December 12, 2021

Kailua Village 

Take a stroll on the Big Island through Kona's Historic Kailua Village and shop, dine and support local businesses and vendors each Sunday afternoon from 1:00 PM- 6:00 PM starting September 19 and going through December 12. Vehicular traffic will be closed. This pedestrian-only event showcases local vendors, artisans, and crafters, as well as festive entertainment and mouth-watering food. Kokua Kailua starts at Kailua Pier and goes all the way to Hualalai Road along Alii Drive. The Kailua Village Business Improvement District's Show Aloha safety protocols will be in place, including spacing between vendors, hand sanitizing stations with face masks recommended for participants.

 

 

Kamehameha Schools Presents Backyard BBQ & Mele on the Lawn

Are you looking for some great food and entertainment under the stars of beautiful Oahu? If you are 21+, Grab a ticket to the Kamehameha Schools Backyard BBQ & Mele on the Lawn which features local favorite food vendors Easy 'Que, Nui Kealoha Catering, Sunset Texas Barbeque, Teddy's Bigger Burgers, and TEX 808 BBQ & Brews. On the menu is grilled and smoked items, accompanied by homegrown side dishes which include a popular, versatile and delicious indigenous staple of Hawaiian breadfruit, or ulu in collaboration with The Hawaii Ulu Cooperative, a network of small-scale diversified farms committed to reviving ulu as a sustainable, nutritious staple food. Performers for the night include Kamehameha Schools alumni and Na Hoku Hanohano award-winning singers/songwriters Na Leo and Keauhou, and their inspiring lineup of mele connects guests to Hawaii's vast musical traditions. Brooke Lee, a  Kamehameha Schools graduate, 1997 Miss Universe, and host of "Modern Wahine," will emcee the evening. Also in attendance is MANAOLA, a Hawaiian lifestyle brand that creates indigenous artistry inspired by cultural values and ancestral knowledge. Attendees can purchase a limited edition pareo (wrap/scarf) created by MANAOLA. A portion of proceeds benefits a local area-based organization. Please keep in mind that you will be required to show proof of full vaccination or provide a negative COVID-19 test result (taken 48 hours prior to the event) in order to attend.

 

Turkey Trot 

November 25, 2021

7:00 AM- 11:30 AM 

Rice Park, Kula

Trot around Maui on November 25th, just in time for turkey day! VIRR is hosting their Turkey Trot, where winners are those who are closest to guessing their time in the 8-mile run. Choose from either an 8-mile run starting at 7:00 AM or a 5K, which starts at 7:30 AM. Leave your time devices at home, as there is no cheating in this race! The trot begins and finishes at Rice Pack in the parking area off of Lower Kula Road. Donations of non-perishable food items will be collected as well for the Maui Food Bank. 

 

Christmas 5K Run & Santa's ½ Mile Keiki Dash

7:30 AM-10:00 AM 

Kaunoa Senior Center-Paia 

Bring yourself and your kids for this fun and exciting Christmas 5k Run and Santa's ½ Mile Keiki Dash on December 19, 2021. The first event-the Keiki Dash, a special race for keiki 8 years and under-starts at 7:30 AM. The 5K run or closer to 5.5K starts at 7:35 AM and is free for VIRR members; non VIRR members are also welcome. The 1 Mile Walk starts immediately after the 5K runners leave the start line and loops from the parking lot, along the bike path, and back. None of the races are timed or have bib numbers. However, there will be a race clock for those who do want their times. So mark your calendar, this is an event you don't want to miss!
